What shall we eat?
Matthew 6:28-31:
28 "And why do you worry about clothes?
See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not
labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon
in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field,
which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the
fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little
faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we
eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we
wear?” -NIV
Well, once again my spouse and I had a “discussion”
about money issues. We have been going through a “desert
time” for over a year now. Today’s discussion
was due to a cut in our food budget which because
of our situation has to cover two households. I allowed
fear to rise up and make me concerned about how we
were going to stretch this food allowance.
Later as I was studying and spending time in God’s
word, I was reminded of this verse. I saw how time
and time again God provided for His people regardless
of their situations. It was like God was asking me
these questions and saying to me, “are you allowing
doubt to try to come between us?” After all
for over a year now God has made the money stretch,
we haven’t missed a meal, and we have been blessed
continually.
We all need to hold onto the promises God has given
to His children. The next time you are facing a stack
of bills, wondering how to buy clothes or, where the
next meal is coming from. Stop! Take a deep breathe
and ask Dad for a hand. He will be faithful to fulfill
His promises!
