Steps
Romans 4:11-13:
11 And he received the sign of circumcision,
a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while
he was still uncircumcised. So then, he is the father
of all who believe but have not been circumcised,
in order that righteousness might be credited to them.
12 And he is also the father of the circumcised who
not only are circumcised but who also walk in the
footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had
before he was circumcised.13 It was not through law
that Abraham and his offspring received the promise
that he would be heir of the world, but through the
righteousness that comes by faith. -NIV
God is making my family take steps of faith. Yet,
unlike Abraham’s descendents we don’t
have footsteps to follow in, so you can almost say
we are taking “blind steps” in faith.
I have to admit there are times when it feels like
I am taking no steps forward and times when I feel
there is no faith to back up my steps. Like Abraham
and his family it will not be through the law that
we will receive our promise but through faith.
The Lord will keep His promise even if it takes more
time then we think it should. Here is a little background
information on Abraham. God made a promise to Abraham
that he would have a son. Abraham took things into
his own hands when Sarah gave him Hagar who bore him
Ishmael. This could not fulfill the promise as God
intended. Thirteen years later God again spoke to
Abraham about the promise. Thus, allowing a miracle
child, Isaac, to be born to the now hundred year old
Abraham and ninety year old Sarah. I want to stress
the thirteen years because that is a long time for
us to wait. For God it was the right time for His
promise to be filled so no man could say it was not
of Him. Abraham had thirteen years of taking steps
of faith. Thirteen years of saying to himself “did
I really have a covenant with the Lord? Did I understand
what God was saying to me?” Thirteen years of
questioning his own faith in God. Thirteen years of
not having a clue as to what God’s plan was.
Today we live in a fast paced world with instant
upgrades to faster computers, faster cars, and faster
technology as a whole. We live in an “I want
the answer now” society! God is a God of perfect
timing! We have to at times take off our watches,
turn off our televisions, computers, phones, etc.
Go into a quiet place and step into God’s perfect
time. Wait upon the Lord and know that He is just!
Will you take a step in faith and let your timing
be God’s timing?
