Define... Interesting? (part 1)
Luke 10:41,42: 41"Martha, Martha,"
the Lord answered, "you are worried and
upset about many things, 42but only one thing
is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and
it will not be taken away from her."
-NIV
There used to be an old saying (from Roman Times
I believe) It went “May you live in interesting
times.” When it was said you really didn’t
know if the person was wishing you good or harm.
Interesting times are hard to define. Many of
us today live in interesting times. Times that
we really don’t know how else to define.
These days it is hard to go anywhere without
being exposed to thousands of things that are
designed to distract us. Why? Because we crave
distraction from our routine, we want to be
involved, connected, part of something special
so we go out and find something to do. There
are today hundreds of thousands of things that
are interesting that can be found instantly.
You can go on Google or Ask or Yahoo and find
out about … well anything. Hours can be
spent each day just following up on some obscure
fact about yak meat in Tibet. (I know I did
that one day don’t ask me why because
I really couldn’t tell you.) Some of us
allow ourselves to be distracted by our work,
our play or things around the house. The thing
is all this distracts you from your life and
your life is what God wants you to live.
Find the person who needs you or, be the person
that others who are struggling need you to be.
Be steady, be strong, be … boring if necessary
because frankly to the people who depend on
you that is interesting. Let us not get distracted
from what we need to do. Above all, let us keep
our focus on God. |
