Define... Interesting? (part 2)
Psalms 10:11-12: 11 He says to himself,
"God has forgotten; he covers his face and never
sees." 12 Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O
God. Do not forget the helpless. -NIV
Recently I watched a movie called "Serenity"
and in it there was a scene that went like this:
Hoban 'Wash' Washburn: This
landing is gonna get pretty interesting.
Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: Define
"interesting".
Hoban 'Wash' Washburn: [deadpan]
Oh God, oh God, we're all going to die?
Times are getting interesting. Yesterday I
talked about how interesting times can distract
us from God. Today I am going to talk about
how interesting times can sometimes make us
doubt God.
When trouble was all around David and he was
hiding in the caves afraid of Saul who was trying
to kill him he cried out to the Lord. At times
he felt all alone, he wrote about it, many of
his Psalms include a cry to God to "arise" or
to "awaken". It seems to me that David felt
that God had fallen asleep, or that God was
no longer paying attention to him. If David
could feel that way and even write about it
when he had at times actually seen God's Glory
then it stands to reason there will be times
when we will feel that way. When the whole world
seems to be against us, that next problem hits
us and we are still in the middle of the last
"interesting time" we may feel like crying "WAKE
UP AND DO SOMETHING HERE LORD!" like David.
It is ok to feel that way and ok to cry out
like that but you must remember that God has
never fallen asleep he is just doing things
in his own time. Many times I have asked God
to do what I wanted in My time and later I was
so very glad he didn't. Instead he did it in
HIS time, a time that was more beneficial to
me and to my family.
When you feel lost and alone, like God has
left you to die, just remember that David left
those caves and became King of all Israel. You
too are a Prince destined to be a King, Co-heir
with Jesus. You too will be able to survive
your interesting times. |
