God is My Copilot...
1 Kings 16:2: "I lifted you up from
the dust and made you leader of my people Israel,
but you walked in the ways of Jeroboam and caused
my people Israel to sin and to provoke me to
anger by their sins. -NIV
I know it is a cliché and even worse
is the newer versions like "Dog is my Copilot",
although I am growing kind of fond of the one
that says “If God is your Co-pilot then
Promote him to Pilot”
This got me to thinking about what we say to
others when we stand up so proudly and declare
“I am A Christian” with our bumper
stickers and T-shirts, our mugs and our Music.
I was given a story the other day about a woman
who was arrested because she started swearing
at the driver in front of her. The policeman
assumed the car was stolen because all the bumper
stickers declared the driver was a Christian
so he believed a swearing driver must have carjacked
it from a Christian. The story of course is
apocryphal but still it drives home a point.
Why do we let the enemy hijack our lives? We
are supposed to be “leaders” in
our community showing others the way to Christ.
Instead to often we drive others away from him
when they see the way we live. We want to tell
others we are Christians and we want others
to come to us and say, as the song says, “Take
me to your Leader” but will they really
do that based upon watching your life. When
Jesus is your Co-pilot he is still only there
for emergencies, the back-up, do we really want
to relegate him to standby or do we want him
actually in the pilots seat taking us to a higher
altitude of living.
From now on live as if Jesus is your pilot.
Let him do the flying you act as the Host or
Hostess and help out the others flying with
you then maybe they will say to you. “What
a great flight I would like to meet the Pilot.” |
