Purpose
Many
churches have begun creating and supporting small group
ministries. Often they are either called "LIFE groups"
or "Cell groups"
LIFE
Groups stand for:
- Learning - personal growth
- Intimacy - trusting relationships with others
- Fellowship - friendships
- Evangelism - reaching out
Cell
Groups often carry the same meaning, but the word "cell"
refers to cells of the body. In large churches (300+) it
is easy to feel like another face in the crowd. However,
these small group ministries allow one to become connected
to others for friendship, fellowship, and growth.
The
secret to a successful small group ministry is interaction
and "iron sharpening iron." There are countless
avenues if someone wants to be "preached at."
These small groups, however, are a place for discussion,
thought, and application; interaction.
How
To Use
The following Acrobat (PDF) files and Word documents are
an instructor's outline. Questions are in bold
and italics. Example:
Q: What does this verse mean to you?
Under each of the questions are key points to make sure
the group brings up. You can either directly state them
after they answer, or ask leading questions.
In general, open ended questions (ones asking for thought
or a story) are the best for promoting discussion, however
closed ended questions (yes/no, multiple choice) are good
for focusing the topic down first.
The Secret: Value their answers, insight,
and experience. Treat them like they someone famous whose
answer you really want. What would you ask Peter? Paul?
Jesus?

About the Author
Nicholas
"Nik" Iacono has been teaching Christian LIFE
(Learning, Intimacy, Fellowship, Evangelism - also known
as Cell Groups) since 2002. Over the past few years, the
group has varied, from a men/women's group (heterogeneous)
to a men only group (homogenous), from college kids, to
young married couples.
These
lessons above only represent a fraction of the lessons Nik
has written. If you enjoy these lessons and would like to
